SAM points of contact (Points of contact (POC) in SAM.gov)
SAM points of contact stands for Points of contact (POC) in SAM.gov. Every SAM.gov registration lists points of contact, or POCs. The required ones are the Electronic Business POC and the Government Business POC. There are also optional alternates and a Past Performance POC, which is the person notified about CPARS evaluations.
These names and emails are used by contracting officers, CPARS, other federal systems, and sometimes the public. Keep them current, because notices sent to a former employee are still treated as delivered.
Why it matters to a small contractor
List people who actually answer their email. Missing a CPARS notice or a contracting officer's question because it went to an old address can cost you money and reputation.
Example
When a company's longtime bookkeeper retires, the owner updates the Electronic Business POC and Past Performance POC in SAM the same week.
SAM points of contact: common questions
Will listing my email in SAM bring spam?
Some SAM data is public, so expect some marketing emails. Use a dedicated business address if that helps you separate real government messages.
Can one person fill all POC roles?
Yes, in a small business one person often does. Adding an alternate is still wise in case that person is away.
