Entity administrator (SAM.gov entity administrator role)

Entity administrator stands for SAM.gov entity administrator role. In SAM.gov, the entity administrator is the person who has full control over a business's entity registration. The administrator can update the registration, renew it, and assign or remove roles for other users.

When you first register an entity, you usually become its administrator. If an outside firm registered your business for you, make sure someone inside your company holds the administrator role, not just the consultant.

Why it matters to a small contractor

Losing administrator access is one of the most painful SAM problems. Always have at least two trusted people from your own company with administrator rights.

Example

A company founder realizes the consultant who registered the business years ago is the only administrator. She requests the role in SAM.gov and, after it is granted, adds her operations manager as a second administrator.

Entity administrator: common questions

How do I become the administrator if no one inside the company has access?

SAM.gov has a process to request the role, which may require a letter on company letterhead. Check the Federal Service Desk help pages for current steps.

Is the administrator the same as the points of contact?

No. Administrators control access. Points of contact are names listed in the registration for the government to contact. One person can be both.
