ANC (Alaska Native Corporation)
ANC stands for Alaska Native Corporation. Alaska Native Corporations were created under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971 to manage land and money for Alaska Native people. Many ANCs own government contracting subsidiaries.
ANC-owned firms can participate in the 8(a) program under special rules. An ANC can own more than one 8(a) subsidiary, ANC firms are treated differently under some affiliation rules, and they have more flexibility on sole-source awards than ordinary 8(a) firms, though larger sole-source awards require extra justification.
Why it matters to a small contractor
ANC subsidiaries are often prime contractors on large federal service contracts, which makes them good potential partners for small local trades firms looking for subcontract work.
Example
An ANC-owned facilities subsidiary wins a base operations contract in Texas and needs local subcontractors for pest control and grounds maintenance, so it reaches out to small firms near the base.
ANC: common questions

No. Many ANC subsidiaries operate across the lower 48 states and overseas.
