MATOC (Multiple Award Task Order Contract)

MATOC stands for Multiple Award Task Order Contract. A MATOC is an IDIQ contract awarded to a group of contractors at once. The holders then compete for individual task orders under a shared ceiling.

The term is common in Army and Corps of Engineers work for construction, repair and environmental services. Each holder usually gets only a small minimum guarantee, often satisfied by the first order or a seed project.

Why it matters to a small contractor

MATOC holders often need local trades to perform orders far from their home office. If you are near a base, find out who holds the local MATOC and introduce yourself.

Example

A district awards a $49 million MATOC to six firms for facility repairs. Over three years, holder number four wins seven task orders worth $3.2 million.

MATOC: common questions

How is a MATOC different from a MACC?

They are very similar. MACC is a term often used by Navy and Air Force for construction. MATOC is common with the Army and Corps.

Do all holders get work?

No. Each order is competed, so some holders win many and some win none.
