MACC (Multiple Award Construction Contract)

MACC stands for Multiple Award Construction Contract. A MACC is a multiple-award IDIQ dedicated to construction. Several contractors are awarded a seat, and each new construction project is competed among them as a task order.

MACCs are common with naval and air bases and can cover new buildings, renovations and repairs. They often have big shared ceilings and long terms, with a small guaranteed minimum per holder.

Why it matters to a small contractor

MACC holders bid many projects and need reliable subs to price fast. Sending clean, quick quotes to MACC holders is one of the best ways for trades to grow in federal construction.

Example

A naval base MACC with eight holders competes a $1.8 million hangar repair task order. The winner subcontracts electrical and fire alarm work to two local shops.

MACC: common questions

Do MACC orders require bonding?

Construction orders above set dollar levels typically require performance and payment bonds. Subs may need bonds too if the prime asks.

Are MACC orders posted publicly?

Usually not. They go only to the MACC holders.
