XL EagleSmall Business Search (Small Business Search (SBS), formerly Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS))
Small Business Search stands for Small Business Search (SBS), formerly Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS). Small Business Search is SBA's free database that contracting officers and prime contractors use to find small businesses by NAICS code, certification, location and keywords. It replaced the older Dynamic Small Business Search, often called DSBS, in 2025, and existing profiles were carried over.
The profile is built largely from your SAM.gov registration and shows SBA certifications automatically. You can usually add a business description, keywords, capability narrative and other details to make your profile easier to find.
Why it matters to a small contractor
Buyers really do use this search during market research. A complete profile with clear keywords like 'commercial HVAC maintenance' or 'janitorial' can put you on a contracting officer's short list.
Example
A contracting officer doing market research for a grounds contract searches Small Business Search for NAICS 561730 HUBZone firms in her state and finds a small landscaping company's profile.
Small Business Search: common questions
Do I need to create a separate SBS profile?
Your basic profile comes from SAM.gov, so register in SAM first. Then log in to add details that make the profile more useful.
Is DSBS gone?
Yes. SBA replaced DSBS with Small Business Search, so older links and guides that mention DSBS now point to the new system.
