GSA MAS (Multiple Award Schedule)

GSA MAS stands for Multiple Award Schedule. The GSA Multiple Award Schedule is a long-term contract program where GSA pre-approves companies and their prices. Federal agencies, and in some cases state and local governments, can then buy directly from schedule holders with less paperwork.

MAS is split into categories and Special Item Numbers that describe what each holder can sell. A schedule contract is not a promise of sales; holders still have to market and win orders.

Why it matters to a small contractor

A schedule can help a trade business reach buyers faster, but it takes real time to get and maintain. Many small firms first build past performance as a sub, then apply.

Example

A janitorial firm gets a GSA schedule under the janitorial SIN. A federal building manager finds them on GSA Advantage and issues a $60,000 order without a full open competition.

GSA MAS: common questions

Does a GSA schedule guarantee work?

No. It makes you eligible to be ordered from. You still need to market and win quotes.

How long does a schedule last?

Schedule contracts generally run for long terms with option periods, often up to 20 years total if options are exercised.
