GPC (Government Purchase Card)
GPC stands for Government Purchase Card. The government purchase card is a charge card issued to authorized federal employees for official buying. It is mainly used for micro-purchases, but it can also be used to pay for orders under contracts above that level.
Card holders have spending limits and must keep records. The card speeds up small buys, and vendors get paid quickly through normal card processing.
Why it matters to a small contractor
Accepting cards is a simple way to win small, fast jobs from federal offices. Keep receipts clear, list what was bought, and never charge before the work or item is delivered unless agreed.
Example
A base facilities clerk uses a GPC to pay $3,400 for emergency pest control at a dining hall. The vendor runs the card after the service is done.
GPC: common questions
Do I need special equipment to take a GPC?
No. It works like a regular business credit card through your normal processor.
Can a card holder buy over the micro-purchase limit?
Only if they have that authority and follow the required procedures, or when using it to pay against an existing contract or order.
