XL EagleUSAspending (USAspending.gov)
USAspending stands for USAspending.gov. USAspending.gov is the official public website for federal spending data, run by the Department of the Treasury. It combines contract data from FPDS with financial data so anyone can search awards by agency, location, recipient, NAICS or PSC code.
It also shows subaward data reported by primes, which can help you find which primes are subcontracting the kind of work you do. It is free and does not require an account.
Why it matters to a small contractor
Use USAspending's advanced search to find which agencies buy your service in your area and who holds the contracts now. Those incumbents are often good targets for subcontracting, too.
Example
A janitorial company searches USAspending for PSC S201 awards in its county and finds a prime holding three cleaning contracts that will be recompeted within two years.
USAspending: common questions
Can I see what a competitor charges?
You can usually see total award value and obligations, not detailed line-item pricing. It is still useful for estimating price ranges.
Does USAspending show small purchases?
Many very small purchases, such as credit card buys, are not reported in detail, so the data is strongest for larger contracts.
