State and local procurement

OGS (New York Office of General Services)

OGS stands for New York Office of General Services. OGS is the New York State Office of General Services. Its Procurement Services group awards centralized contracts for goods, services, and technology that state agencies must or may use, and that many local governments can also use. OGS also manages state facilities and runs design and construction projects.

When someone asks what OGS means in a bid, it usually refers to an OGS centralized contract or an OGS-issued solicitation. OGS contracts are listed by group and award number.

Why it matters to a small contractor

An OGS centralized contract can put you in front of state agencies, counties, cities, and school districts across New York. OGS also issues construction bids through its Design and Construction group, which use prevailing wage and MWBE goals.

Example

A small elevator maintenance firm subcontracts under an OGS centralized contract holder. A county in New York orders service under the OGS contract, and the firm services the county courthouse elevators.
