EDWOSB (Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business)

EDWOSB stands for Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business. An EDWOSB is a Women-Owned Small Business whose controlling women owners are also economically disadvantaged under SBA's limits on personal net worth, average income, and total assets. Certain assets, such as equity in the primary home and the value of the business itself, are excluded from the net worth calculation.

In industries where women-owned firms are substantially underrepresented, contracting officers can restrict a set-aside to EDWOSBs only. An EDWOSB can also compete for regular WOSB set-asides, so it covers both.

Why it matters to a small contractor

If you qualify for WOSB, check whether you also meet the EDWOSB financial limits. It costs nothing extra to apply for both, and it can open bids that ordinary WOSBs cannot touch.

Example

A woman who started a small landscaping business two years ago has modest savings and income. When she applies for WOSB in MySBA Certifications, she also qualifies as an EDWOSB.

EDWOSB: common questions

What are the EDWOSB financial limits?

SBA sets limits on personal net worth, three-year average adjusted gross income, and total assets. Check SBA's current figures on sba.gov, since they can be updated.

Do I apply separately for EDWOSB?

You apply through the same WOSB process in MySBA Certifications and provide the extra financial information to show economic disadvantage.
