AFCEC (Air Force Civil Engineer Center)
AFCEC stands for Air Force Civil Engineer Center. The Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC) is the Air Force organization that handles major civil engineering programs. It is headquartered at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.
AFCEC manages military construction, facility sustainment, environmental cleanup, energy projects, and housing programs for Air Force and Space Force installations. It often uses large multiple-award contracts, while each base's own civil engineer squadron handles day-to-day repairs.
Why it matters to a small contractor
AFCEC contracts tend to be big, so small trades usually reach them as subcontractors to the primes who hold them. For smaller repairs and maintenance, the base contracting squadron is often the better target. Knowing the difference saves you time chasing the wrong office.
Example
An environmental drilling company subcontracts to a large firm that won an AFCEC task order to monitor groundwater at an Air Force base.
