Treasury (U.S. Department of the Treasury)

Treasury stands for U.S. Department of the Treasury. The U.S. Department of the Treasury manages federal finances. It collects taxes through the IRS, prints money through the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, mints coins through the U.S. Mint, and issues payments through the Bureau of the Fiscal Service.

Treasury buys IT, security, facility services, and supplies. Its Fiscal Service also runs the Invoice Processing Platform (IPP) that many civilian agencies use to receive vendor invoices.

Why it matters to a small contractor

Even if you never sell to Treasury, it may be the office that sends your payment. Make sure your SAM.gov banking details are correct. Some civilian agencies ask vendors to invoice through IPP.

Example

A grounds contractor working for a civilian agency registers in the Invoice Processing Platform and submits monthly invoices there.
