DOC (Department of Commerce)

DOC stands for Department of Commerce. The Department of Commerce (DOC) promotes economic growth and handles trade, weather, standards, and statistics. Its bureaus include NOAA, NIST, the Census Bureau, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Commerce buys IT, research support, facility services, ship and aircraft maintenance for NOAA, and survey operations for the Census. Each bureau has contracting offices, and some buying is centralized.

Why it matters to a small contractor

Commerce is not a single buyer. NOAA field sites, NIST campuses, and Census offices each have local needs, from facility maintenance to marine repairs. Pick the bureau that operates near you.

Example

A boat repair yard near a NOAA facility quotes on hull work for a small research vessel.
