DISA (Defense Information Systems Agency)
DISA stands for Defense Information Systems Agency. The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is the DoD combat support agency for communications and information technology. It runs networks, data centers, and secure communications that connect the military worldwide.
DISA buys IT services, telecom, cybersecurity, software, and the cabling and facility work that supports them. Its contracting arm is often referred to as DITCO.
Why it matters to a small contractor
DISA is mostly a fit for IT and telecom firms, but trades still have a role. Low-voltage cabling, fiber installs, electrical work at communication sites, and data center facility maintenance can flow down to small subcontractors. Expect security requirements and site access rules.
Example
A small fiber optic installer is brought on as a subcontractor to pull and terminate cable at a military communications building under a larger DISA network contract.
DISA: common questions
What does DISA do?
DISA provides and secures the networks, communications, and computing services used across DoD. It supports the White House, combatant commands, and military services.
Can a small business sell to DISA?
Yes, many DISA contracts include small business set-asides or subcontracting goals. Most opportunities are IT focused, so trade firms usually work as subcontractors.
