TSA (Transportation Security Administration)
TSA stands for Transportation Security Administration. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is a DHS agency created after September 11, 2001, to secure the nation's transportation systems. It is best known for screening passengers and bags at airports.
TSA buys screening equipment, maintenance for that equipment, IT, training, and support services. TSA contracts follow the FAR plus DHS's supplement, the HSAR.
Why it matters to a small contractor
TSA buys are often technical, so equipment maintenance, IT, and logistics firms have the clearest fit. Expect DHS security clauses and background checks for workers who need access to airport secure areas.
Example
A small electronics repair company teams with a larger maintenance contractor to service checkpoint equipment at regional airports.
TSA: common questions
Does TSA follow the FAR?
Yes. TSA once used its own acquisition system, but it has followed the FAR since 2008, along with the DHS supplement. The FAA is the transportation agency that still uses its own system.
Where are TSA opportunities posted?
