SF 30 (Amendment of Solicitation/Modification of Contract)

SF 30 stands for Amendment of Solicitation/Modification of Contract. The SF 30, Amendment of Solicitation/Modification of Contract, is used for two jobs. Before award it amends a solicitation. After award it modifies a contract, for example to add work, extend the period or change funding.

The form says whether the contractor must sign it. Block 13 shows the kind of change, such as a change order, a supplemental agreement or an administrative change. The description of the change is in Block 14 and continuation pages.

Why it matters to a small contractor

When an SF 30 lands in your inbox, check two things right away: whether it is an amendment you must acknowledge before a deadline, and whether it is a contract modification that changes your price, scope or schedule. If it changes your work, make sure the money changes too before you sign.

Example

A grounds contractor receives an SF 30 that adds two acres to the mowing area. Block 14 shows the new acreage but no price change, so the contractor contacts the contracting officer to request an equitable adjustment before signing.

SF 30: common questions

Do I always have to sign an SF 30?

No. The form says whether the contractor's signature is required. Administrative changes and some unilateral changes do not need it.

How do I acknowledge an amendment issued on an SF 30?

Sign and return it, or list it on your offer form, as the instructions say. Do it before the offer due date.
