Subcontractor Quote
Subcontractor Quote. A subcontractor quote is the price a subcontractor gives a prime contractor for performing part or all of the work on a government solicitation. The prime adds its own costs, such as management, insurance, bonding and profit, and submits the total as its bid or proposal.
A solid subcontractor quote states the scope covered, exclusions, assumptions, the wage rates used, how long the price is valid, and the legal name of the company that will do the work.
Why it matters to a small contractor
Your quote is only as good as its match to the solicitation. Price the scope in the solicitation, not your usual job. Include the wage determination rates if they apply, list exclusions plainly, and give a validity period long enough to cover the government's evaluation. Vendors can send their price to XL Eagle, which bids it as prime and subcontracts the work back if it wins.
Example
A local tree service gives a prime a quote for hazardous tree removal at a national forest campground: $14,800 for 22 trees, including traffic control and debris haul-off, using the wage determination laborer rate, valid 90 days.
Subcontractor Quote: common questions
How long should my subcontractor quote be valid?
Long enough to cover the solicitation's acceptance period plus some evaluation time. Many solicitations require prices to stay firm for 30 to 90 days.
Will the prime mark up my price?
Yes, typically. The prime adds its own costs and profit to cover management, insurance, compliance and risk.
