Special Notice
Special Notice. A special notice is a catch-all notice type on SAM.gov. Agencies use it to announce industry days, outreach events, draft solicitations, upcoming business opportunities, or changes in how a program will be run.
A special notice usually does not ask for prices, and no contract comes directly from it. Some ask for comments or registration for an event by a certain date.
Why it matters to a small contractor
Special notices are where you find industry days and meet-the-buyer events, which are often the easiest way for a small contractor to talk to the people who will run a future contract. They also sometimes contain draft scopes you can comment on before they become final.
Example
A regional office posts a special notice inviting contractors to a virtual industry day about an upcoming facilities maintenance contract. Attendees will get a walkthrough of the draft scope and a chance to ask questions.
Special Notice: common questions
Can I submit a bid on a special notice?
Normally no. A special notice is informational. Watch for the actual solicitation that follows.
Are special notices worth tracking?
Yes, especially in your trade and region. They give early warning of work and invite you into conversations competitors may miss.
