Questions Deadline
Questions Deadline. The questions deadline is the last date and time the government will accept written questions about a solicitation. It is usually listed in the solicitation along with the email address or portal for submitting questions.
Answers are typically published to all interested parties, often in an amendment or a Q&A attachment, without naming who asked. Questions received after the deadline may not be answered.
Why it matters to a small contractor
Ask early and ask in writing. If a quantity is unclear, a drawing is missing or the price sheet does not match the scope, a well-written question protects your price and sometimes reveals problems other bidders missed. Only written answers in an amendment are binding.
Example
A snow removal RFQ lists a questions deadline five days before quotes are due. A contractor asks whether sidewalks are included in the plowing scope, and the answer, published in Amendment 0001, adds 1.2 miles of sidewalk.
Questions Deadline: common questions
Can I call the contracting officer instead?
Follow the solicitation's instructions. Most require written questions so the answers can be shared fairly with all offerors.
Are verbal answers binding?
Generally no. Rely only on written answers that the government formally issues, usually through an amendment.
