What the job is
Quantity and schedule: Estimated 36 structural tests and 36 AC dielectric tests annually, performed in August.
AC dielectric testing: Upper boom at 69 kV for 180 seconds; lower boom insulator at 50 kV for 180 seconds; individual basket liners at 35 kV for 60 seconds; hydraulic insulating oil breakdown test at 21 kV. Include bonding of all upper boom components.
Structural testing: Magnetic particle testing of critical welded areas, including outriggers, pedestal, turret, cylinder block, elbow, basket and boom areas, auger supports, winch hooks, and chain terminal block. Ultrasonic testing of critical pins, anchor and turntable bolts, basket shaft, and auger hanger pins.
Inspection requirements: Follow current OSHA requirements, include dielectric failure location and free retesting, and provide written results identifying each unit, testing date, time, and location.
