What the job is
Schedule: Harvest November 9, 2026–February 28, 2027 using purse seine gear.
Quote basis: Specify the tons of herring corresponding to a $30,000 payment from the operator, up to 210 tons. Base price is $30,000 divided by quoted tons; overages up to 10% are charged at the base price, and overages beyond 10% at twice that price.
Vessel: Supply a herring seine vessel suitable for local weather, with refrigerated seawater and at least 25 tons of fish hold capacity; provide tender vessels if needed.
Qualifications: Prior fishing experience in Sitka Sound and a current Southeast Alaska herring roe purse seine or winter food and bait permit, or a license to process herring in Southeast Alaska. An eligible permit holder must be aboard each fishing vessel; a current Alaska business license is required.
Included costs: Provide the seine net, fishing equipment, crew, food, fuel, and living arrangements.
Research support: Allow for locating herring concentrations and accommodating one or two biologists for onboard sampling.
Insurance: Include required workers' compensation, $300,000 maritime/Jones Act coverage, $1 million general liability, and $300,000 automobile liability.
