Treatment: Up to 301 acres on slopes of 30% or less; reduce basal area from 195 to an average of 85 square feet per acre by removing trees in the 8–24-inch diameter-at-breast-height classes.
Tree selection: Prioritize white fir, Douglas-fir, and Engelmann spruce; retain healthy live aspen, other species, New Mexican locust, and trees showing wildlife use. Remove encroaching spruce and fir up to 24 inches in diameter around aspen stands.
Cleanup: Maximum stump height of 5 inches measured uphill; spread slash to a maximum depth of 12 inches or masticate and spread to a maximum depth of 4 inches. Restore skid trails and provide water bars as needed.
Work conditions: Begin with a 5-acre test area for approval. Account for shutdowns due to saturated soils or snow exceeding 6 inches.
